This is my old Tudor Wars of the Roses army re-vitalised and re-based for Art de la Guerre rules. So, now they will hopefully have a new lease of life and get used again.
Some of my club mates are fans of ADLG,
so I decided to join them and repurpose some old armies. I like the
general scale of the armies (not too many figures to paint) and the games I have played so far have been
fun.
This army was originally built for a club project based on the Perfect Captain rules and campaign. That was popular for a
while but not everyone liked the battle rules, so
they have rather languished in their boxes since that initial burst of
enthusiasm.
We each picked a faction for our troops and mine were based on the Lancastrian army from the battle of Mortimer's Cross in 1461. The battlefield Trust has some more details here.
My ADLG army is built on three commands, as you would expect for a late Medieval army.

The vanguard comprises the forces of James Butler, Earl of Ormond and Wiltshire. Historically Butler was said to have brought Irish, French and Breton mercenaries with him but my troops here are just his household retinue. I'll add the mercenaries later. Perry Miniatures now do some nice Irish Kerns that are allowed in the list and I'm tempted to add some Gallowglass troops to expand Butler's command into an Anglo-Irish army of at least 100pts.
The main are the retinue forces of Jasper Tudor Earl of Pembroke. Jasper was the uncle of the future Henry VIIth and a die hard Lancastrian supporter. In game I might mix the Tudor retinue troops and levies across the main and rear.
The rear is composed of the Welsh levies and commanded by
Owen Tudor, the mysterious second husband to dowager queen
Catherine of Valois.
My basing is not strictly as per the rulebook as I have made all the bases 1 UD or 60mm squares. The rules say heavy units like the foot knights and billmen should be 60mm x 40mm but that is a minimum size and I prefer the consistent look. The heavy troops are six figures per base and the medium troops, like the archers and welsh spearmen, are four to a base, so it's easy to tell them apart anyway.
